Health initiatives

(P4) Health initiatives are currently promoted frequently in order to better certain factors. Obesity is one factor the government wants to improve in the UK. They want less people to have it because it becomes a health threat to people that get it. Unhealthy eating habits is another factor they want to decrease in order to improve the diets of people. They also want to decrease the amount of people that have a sedentary lifestyle in the UK. They are not only promoted in the UK they are widely promoted across the world.
(M4) Change 4 Life is an association that is working to keep everyone in the country and world fit and healthy. They want everyone to live an active lifestyle and they promote it so that anyone can do it. The most popular advertisement by Change 4 Life is where it shows all members of a family getting active. Change 4 Life spend a lot of time targeting younger children to get active and healthy. This is because they do not fully understand the risks of not being active and healthy at this age whereas adults do. This is good for football because if children learn to enjoy being active and healthy, they will want to get involved in sports. Football is very popular for boys in particular and it will attract these active children to get involved. One reason why many children don’t get involved in PE or football is because they struggle with activity and they do not want to get embarrassed. This is why it is important for the government to support associations like Change 4 Life in getting everyone active and healthy. Without this the country would not only be unsuccessful in sport but there would be many people suffering health risks associated with being unhealthy and inactive.
(D1) A short term effect is that people will understand the health benefits and other benefits of leading an active lifestyle. Generally during times such as December Change 4 Life will advertise a lot because they will find that a lot of people’s ‘new year resolution’ is to become active and healthy. Therefore they will generate the most customers around this time. Change 4 Life will need to ensure they keep these customers because a lot of people will lose motivation after a month of exercising and being active because they cannot see many physical results. Herbalife is also a business that generates income from people wanting to become healthy and active. They will gain and keep customers through direct sales and distributors will be personal wellness coaches. They will work to keep the clients motivated to carry on through weighing clients on tanita scales which gives a very precise reading of not only weight but body fat %, muscle mass, visceral fat etc.
A long term effect of these businesses is that the general public will become healthy and active. More and more people will get involved because as people lose weight or gain physical goals they will recommend the business to friends and family. Therefore, the businesses will grow and people will get healthy at the same time. The long term goal of both businesses is to make money whilst making everyone healthy. “A healthy Britain is a better Britain” is a saying that is promoted by the government. No country wants to have a persona for being unhealthy or inactive. If more people are healthy across the country then sport will develop because people will want to take their activity to the next level all the time whether it be football, athletics or basketball. The more people there is to choose from the more options a sport will have meaning competition will increase and this will generate more popularity.
The public will become more active and healthier so there are positive health benefits for these people. The fans of sports will also get more satisfied because the level of competition will keep increasing as there will be more players wanting to get involved. Think how far football has come in terms of ability over the last few years alone. Then think how much further it will develop in years to come. A negative effect is that people may feel pressured in to doing sport when they do not want too. This could lead to people getting stressed and this will generate health problems. Therefore the government need to be careful as to how they approach this ‘healthy Britain’.
